St. James High School, established in 1992 by Mr. Albert Chettiar, was founded with a vision to provide quality education to the marginalised and underprivileged communities in our neighbourhood. Mr. Chettiar’s mission was simple yet powerful – to transform children from illiteracy to literacy by offering education as a service, at affordable costs.
Our school has always been committed to bridging the educational gap by offering a curriculum that not only focuses on academic excellence but also empowers students with essential life skills. A key element of our educational approach is teaching English, the global language, to local children, helping them gain access to broader opportunities in an ever-evolving world.

Our History
St. James High School was founded in 1992 by Mr. Albert Chettiar with a mission to provide quality education to the underprivileged children of Babrekarnagar Slum in Charkop, Kandivali West. The school was established to serve the community by offering affordable education to children from marginalized families, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future.
From its humble beginnings, the school has grown to become a vital educational institution in the area, providing a safe and nurturing environment for over three decades. Our founder’s vision was to make education accessible to all, especially those who lacked the means to afford it. By teaching English alongside core subjects, the school has empowered students to unlock opportunities for a brighter future.
In recent years, our school faced significant challenges when the original building was demolished due to redevelopment projects in the area. Despite this setback, St. James High School persevered, relocating to a rehabilitation building. However, the current conditions have made it increasingly difficult to maintain a focused and safe learning environment for our students.
Through it all, the commitment to Mr. Chettiar’s founding vision remains strong. Today, we are focused on raising funds to build a new, state-of-the-art school building that will continue to serve our community for generations to come.
